Protecting the Cumberland Plateau and the Sequatchie Valley for Aquatic Resources Management
The southeastern United States has more animals living in its rivers and streams than any other temperate region in the world. Unfortunately, this underwater rainforest has been drastically altered by human activities, endangering a large portion of these animals that are found nowhere else on Earth. Walden Ridge and the Sequatchie Valley are major hubs for vegetable crop and cattle production and also high priority areas for partners focused on protecting and restoring water quality. Ridges to Rivers offers the opportunity to demonstrate how agriculture and aquatic life can exist together sustainably. Through this project, we will restore streams that harbor some of the region’s rarest species.
